A Summit Favorite: Pullman Distillery — Frisco's Hidden Train Car Bar

✦ A SUMMIT FAVORITE ✦

Pullman Distillery — Frisco 313 Main St, inside the Frisco Emporium · Thursday–Sunday, 3–8pm

Here's your assignment this weekend: walk into the Frisco Emporium on Main Street, keep going past the front of the building, and find the train car in the back. Trust us.

Pullman Distillery is genuinely one of the coolest spots in all of Summit County — and the fact that most people drive right past it on I-70 without ever knowing it exists is both a shame and a gift for those of us who do. The bar is built inside an authentic 1881 Pullman train car that used to run the route between Summit County and Denver. The owners restored it with period wallpaper, antique light fixtures, and original details that make it feel like you've stepped sideways into another century. Look down when you walk in — you can still see the original tracks beneath your feet.

Owner Scott Pohlman (who you might know as the original brewer at Backcountry Brewery, and the guy behind Ein Prosit next door) spent years dreaming up this concept before bringing it to life. Everything is made in-house using Rocky Mountain spring water from Loveland Pass — small-batch gin, agave spirit, wheated bourbon, and rye whiskey, all crafted at 9,097 feet. The cocktails are the move, but if you want to really appreciate what they're doing, order a flight and take your time with it.

I brought my puppy George here at 10 weeks old — yes, it's dog friendly, and yes, he was absolutely the star of the train car that afternoon. The photo says it all. Seating is intimate — we're talking 8 to 10 people inside the car — which means it never feels like a bar. It feels like a secret. The staff is warm, unpretentious, and genuinely excited to talk about what they make. It's the kind of place you stumble into planning to stay for one drink and end up closing down.

Go before everyone else figures it out. Dogs welcome. 🐾
