The Imperial Challenge
April 4, 2026
Breckenridge, Colorado
The Imperial Challenge is one of Breckenridge’s most unique and beloved races. Often called a “pseudo-triathlon,” the race begins in downtown Breckenridge and finishes at the summit of Peak 8.
Participants bike or run up the road toward the ski area, then transition to ski mountaineering gear to skin uphill to the top of the mountain before skiing back down.
This event has become a spring tradition for locals and competitive athletes alike and offers a fun way to celebrate the transition from winter to spring.
Even if you’re not racing, it’s worth watching the athletes tackle one of the most challenging races in the area.
Sunsation Festival at Copper Mountain

Copper Mountain Resort
Copper Mountain’s Sunsation Festival is one of the biggest spring parties of the ski season.
The festival combines live music, themed parties, and ski competitions in Copper’s base villages. One of the highlights is the Slush Rush, a team ski competition where participants race through a slushy obstacle course.
