Outdoor Things to Do in Summit County, Colorado in July 2026
July is peak season for just about everything outdoors in Summit County.
Hiking: All trails at all elevations are typically open by mid-July. Wildflowers are at their peak in early to mid-July. If you're going to do one alpine hike this summer, now is the time. Favorites right now include Mohawk Lakes above Breckenridge, the Gore Range trails above Silverthorne, and the Ten Mile Canyon path from Frisco to Copper Mountain.
Mountain Biking: Trails are in full summer condition. The rec path from Breckenridge to Frisco to Dillon is flat and easy for families. More advanced riders have access to dozens of singletrack options throughout the county.
Paddleboarding and Kayaking: Dillon Reservoir is stunning in July. Rent boards and kayaks through Lake Dillon Marina. The lake is ringed by paved paths connecting Frisco, Dillon, Silverthorne, and Keystone, so it's easy to park once and explore all day.
Fishing: Lake Dillon and surrounding waters are open and active all month. Boat traffic picks up in July but there's still plenty of shoreline to work.
A Few Things to Know Before You Go
July afternoons in the mountains mean afternoon thunderstorms, usually rolling in around 2–3PM. Plan outdoor activities for the morning and get to lower elevation by early afternoon. A rain jacket is not optional.
Traffic on I-70 heading into the mountains on holiday weekends is serious. If you're coming up for the 4th, arrive before Friday midday or plan to leave very early Monday morning. Once you're here, park once and use the Summit Stage bus system to get between towns.
