Summit County Summer Bucket List: 10 Things to Do Before the Snow Comes Back
Summit County Summer Bucket List: 10 Things to Do Before the Snow Comes Back
Summer in Summit County goes fast. Like, blink-and-you-missed-it fast. Whether you're a visitor checking this place out for the first time or a second-home owner trying to squeeze every last drop out of your time here, this list is for you. These are the things I tell people to do every single summer — some iconic, some a little more off the beaten path, all worth it.
- Summit a 14er
Quandary Peak is the one. It's the most accessible 14er from Breckenridge and a genuinely incredible experience. Start early, bring layers, and don't skip the summit snack. Nothing makes you feel more alive than standing on top of a 14,000-foot mountain on a bluebird day.
- Hit the Dillon Farmers Market
Every Friday from 9am to 2pm starting in June. Local produce, food vendors, live music, good people. It's one of those things that makes you feel like you actually live here, not just visit.
- Catch a Free AirStage Concert in Breckenridge
The Breckenridge Arts District fires up its AirStage every Thursday evening through late summer. It's a retrofitted 1975 Airstream trailer turned performance stage and it is as cool as it sounds. Grab a drink from a nearby spot and just soak it in.
- Paddleboard on Dillon Reservoir
The reservoir is gorgeous on a calm summer morning. Rent a board in Frisco, get out on the water, and try not to stare at the mountains the whole time. (You will stare at the mountains the whole time.)
- Mountain Bike the Peaks Trail
Running between Breckenridge and Frisco, this trail is a local favorite for a reason. It winds through the trees, gains some elevation, and rewards you with views that make you wonder why you ever live anywhere else.
- Take the Free Historic Walking Tour in Frisco
This one surprises people. Frisco has a genuinely fascinating mining and mountain heritage, and these free Saturday tours are a great way to actually learn the history of the place you love. Starts June 6.
- Hike to Mohawk Lakes
This is the hike I send everyone to. It's got it all: wildflowers, waterfalls, a stunning alpine lake at the end, and views the whole way up. Plan for a few hours and bring snacks.
- Explore Main Street Breckenridge on a Weeknight
Everyone does Breck on the weekend. Come on a Tuesday. The restaurants are quieter, you can actually get a table, and the town feels like it belongs to the locals. That is the version of Breckenridge worth knowing.
- Watch the Sunset from the Gondola at Peak 8
The BreckConnect Gondola runs in the summer and the views from the top are unreal at golden hour. Bring a picnic, bring someone you like, and just sit with it for a while.
- Attend a Festival in Keystone
Keystone knows how to throw a party. All summer long the village hosts festivals that bring great food, live music, and that unbeatable mountain backdrop. Check the calendar before your trip and plan your visit around one. You won't regret it.
If you're spending time up here this summer and you want to know more about what makes Summit County so special to live in and own property in, I'm always happy to talk. This place has my whole heart and I love sharing it.
